How do you choose a good dating site??

There are free dating sites, but I don’t recommend them (for women especially) as a first option. From what I've heard and read, there is a real lack of… seriousness at the free dating sites.

Lots of booty call seekers (which is fine if that's what you want).

However, if money is a concern (or you're just cheap), free sites do offer a way to meet single people online.

The paid dating sites are usually loaded with more features like voice and video greetings, advanced matchmaking technology, webcams, more search options, and saved searches.

Paid sites also attract a more serious crowd.

I recommend you search for interest and lifestyle-specific dating sites first.

There are special interest dating sites for nearly anything you can think of, but there is a drawback (more on this in a minute).

There are green singles sites for the environmentally conscious.

There are gay and lesbian dating sites.

There are sites for seniors and pet lovers and single parents and… you get the picture.

You should try choosing sites that best fit your lifestyle.

The downside is that the specialty dating site market is still relatively new right now, so many of them don't have a lot of members yet. This is something to keep in mind when you're evaluating a dating site.

Here are the main 3 things to consider:

Cost - How much can you or how much do you want to spend each month on a membership?

Membership Size – If you want to stay local, then you need to join a site that has a large number of members in your area.

You can use the free trial offered at dating sites to evaluate this. Do some searches in your area to see if there are enough people that you would want to contact.

Features - What features are important to you?

For example, would you like profile matching to ease your search or are you ok with doing all your own member searches?

How about an instant messenger? Or is private email enough?

Some sites have an option to create audio and video greetings and some go further and offer webcam video greetings.

The bottom line is you have to do a little homework to choose the right dating site for you.
